Mission

The Poblenou Art Workshop  Collective, has been created to prevent the disappearance, of the shared warehouse workshops by artists and crafstmen, in Barcelona's Poblenou neighborhood.

History

As a result of the 1992 Olympic Games, a process of deindustrialization began in the city. Poblenou neighborhood, which had been known as the Catalan Manchester; due to its multiple chimneys, experienced an accelerated transformation process; with its lights and shadows.

Many of the surviving factories and workshops were abandonned; waiting to be teared down. Spontaneously, given the impossibility of finding workshops for artistic creation in Barcelona, some warehouses were converted into art workshops. This is how an independent ecosystem emerged, and become a characteristic sign of Poblenou's identity.

The set of art workshops, and former warehouses, in Poblenou is a hub of creative talent. That is why we demand, that this living heritage of Barcelona, needs to be preserved.
